FIRE AND SMOKE
By Kendall Jackson
I fell in love with April
When I was barely seventeen
I thought I'd met the girl of my dreams
Daddy he did warn me
Boy don't get carried away
Better save some fight for another day
Oh but passion Lord how it burned
He knew someday I would learn
When the smoke cleared
I would dry my tears
I got lost in the fire and smoke
I got lost in the fire and smoke
I got lost in the fire and smoke
Daddy carried a pistol
Strapped right by his side
But it was in his hand on the day that he died
An ornery angry stranger
And a heart filled with hate
Turned his venom on my daddy's son that day
Two iron barrels they smoked and burned
I hid my eyes but I'd soon learn
That when the smoke cleared
I would cry my tears
He got lost in the fire and smoke
He got lost in the fire and smoke
He got lost in the fire and smoke
Love and hate stand back-to-back
A peaceful man when cornered he will attack
Trust and fear stand hand-in-hand
We are here now there is no promised land
We got lost in the fire and smoke
We got lost in the fire and smoke
We got lost in the fire and smoke
We got lost in the fire and smoke
Fire and smoke
Fire and smoke
Fire and smoke
Fire and smoke

LOVE WILL FIND YOU
By Kendall Jackson
Tough night for young man he was all alone
Feeling like the whole world's done him wrong
Fearful of the future, dwelling on the past
Thinking that he always came in last
He was too young to appreciate the struggles and the pain
Of finding some love and seeing it through
Love will find you
Love will find you
Blows in like a hurricane
You know there's going to be some rain
But, Love will find you
Love will find you
Love will find you
She was a beauty a player and a flirt
She professed her love then she kicked you to the dirt
But it was all just a mask to hide her insecurities
What you saw was not what it seems
Only one letter separates Satan from satin
She soft to the touch but the way she's acting is going to catch her by surprise
But love will find you
Love will find you
Blows in like a hurricane
You know there's going to be some rain
But Love will find you
Love will find you
Love will find you
Lovers come and lovers go
And then one hits you and your bound to know
The sun is gonna rise. The sky is blue
Dogs grow old, and love will find you
Love will find you
Love will find you
Love will find you

LULA'S GONE
By Kendall Jackson
Lula’s gone, and she’s gone for good
We all wondered if shed ever make it down to New Orleans
Timid as a mouse, you could barely get her out of the house
One day she grabbed the car keys, said “I’m gonna burn some gasoline”
It’s a long road to a better place
She’s stepping on the gas aint gonna play it safe
She’s counting on her faith to carry on
She just hopes she did not wait, hopes she did not wait
Too long
Before it’s gone
Lula had a plan, she knew just where she wanted to be
So she set out, every little thing that she would need
it all comes down to size, was her stomach smaller than her eyes
One day she hit a road block she felt like she would blow to smithereens
It’s a long road to a better place
She’s stepping on the gas aint gonna play it safe
She’s counting on her faith to carry on
She just hopes she did not wait, hopes she did not wait
Too long
Before it’s gone
She doesn't take well to rejection
Questions everything she’s ever done
But she aint afraid of moving
If it’ll take her where she wants to be
It’s a long road to a better place
She’s stepping on the gas aint gonna play it safe
She’s counting on her faith to carry on
She’s counting on her faith to carry on
She’s counting on her faith to carry on
She’s counting on her faith to carry on

DOWN THIS ROAD
By Kendall Jackson
I woke up Monday morning at forty five past ten
I wondered if I would get up and do it all again
On a good day a fifth is gone by three in the afternoon
I'm too damn young to be leaving this world so soon
I've been down that road before
I've been down that road before
After she left me Lord well it hit me awful hard
I wondered if there was still some of me that could
Lay for days face down on my apartment floor
But one day I got up and I walked out the door
I've been down that road before
I've been down that road before
My life is filled with pain and sorrow
I barely make it day to day
Going to see what comes tomorrow
Deal with pain in the same way
Because I've been down that road before
Standing in line with my last $10 for lottery ticket and some devils water
Waiting in line going to do it again going to buy a fifth of liquor and drink it and then i'll walk down
I've been down that road. I've been down that road. I've been down that road. I've been down that road. I've been down that road. I've been down that road. I've been down that road. I've been down that road before.

KING OF THE PLAINS
Written by Elliot Hoffman and Kendall Jackson
He was a simple man with a simple code
Worked his fingers to the bone he carried a heavy load
A DeKalb hat his crown the fields were his domain
Only Mother Nature kept him down the king of the plains
A complex visitor with a complex mind
Roaming round the galaxy, hoping to find
A place to hang his hat a place where no one knows
A place where e can sit where no one ever goes
The visitor's flying the king he's tilling he'll be done by dark God willing
Well the king saw a flight and the king he smelled smoke the light it. Blinded him and he began to choke
The visitor found his spot but on that spot was the king's John Deere
The king spun his crown around an shouted with no fear
Well you crushed my damn tractor you tortured my land
Come on out and face me son, and be a man
You burned up my fields well I'll be God damned
Own up to your treachery and ace me if you can
Get out I that spaceship and fight like a man, climb down that ladder son and face me where I stand
I don't know how it's done on you planet, but here we go hand to hand
Get out I that spaceship and fight like a man,
It was. A DeKalb hat his crown the fields were his domain
Only Mother Nature kept him down the king if the plains.

CAN'T STOP DRINKIN'
Written by Kendall Jackson
Honey I'd drive you home, but I can't stop drinkin'
that beer in front of me, is my priority.
Honey I'd make love to you, but I can't stop drinkin'
My only desire, is the cold one in my hands
I can't wait another minute, without some alcohol up in it
A righteous man might question, a devotion such as mine
I stopped going to church, but I can't stop drinkin'
I'm gonna save my faith for a bottle of wine
Baby I'll watch the kids if you want me too,
But don't be gone for long cause I got some drinkin' to do
Brown liquor gin or beer is what I was thinkin'
I'll commune at the bar baby cause that's how we do
You watch me with them eyes like you always do,
But don't be judging me lest you you done walked up in my shoes
Come join my crusade, get them bottles clinkin'
Two boot prints in the sand means that I'm carrying you
I can't wait another minute, without some alcohol up in it
A righteous man might question, a devotion such as mine
I stopped going to church, but I can't stop drinkin'
I'm gonna save my faith for a bottle of wine
I'm gonna save my faith for a bottle of wine

I WANT YOU BACK
Written by Kendall Jackson
Every morning when I wake and see your face,
I wonder how the years got us to this place
before I met you, I was alone,
now I'd trade every penny I own
I want you back, like you used to be
a total stranger to me
I'd trade the good times that we had
and go back to being lonely, it couldn't be this bad
When I first met you I knew better,
than to fall for a rounder like you
you seemed so genuine but these days I'm trying to find
a way, to get away from you
I want you back, like you used to be
a total stranger to me
I'd trade the good times that we had
and go back to being lonely, it couldn't be this bad
You're angry and bitter and confused,
all our problems are a direct result of you
Ten years later your drunk on the couch,
beer cans all around the house I swear, this ain't no honeymoon
I want you back, like you used to be
a total stranger to me
I'd trade the good times that we had
and go back to being lonely, it couldn't be this bad
and go back to being lonely, it couldn't be this bad

I'LL BREAK SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST YOUR HEART
Written by Ed Masley
Sometimes when I drink I think about you
Sometimes when I sleep I call your name
Well I’m tossin' and I’m turnin'
Oh, don’t think about returnin'
Because I’m getting much too tired to play that game
And if I had a had a dime for all the times you broke me down
I’d buy myself a sheriff and run you out of town
Don’t darken up my door after you tore my world apart
Cause I’ll break something more than just your heart
Sometimes late at night I might forgive you
Sometimes that I think that you’ll be true
Well I’m wishing and I’m prayin'
That these stupid things I’m sayin'
Don’t signify that I’d still fall for you
And if I had a had a dime for all the times you broke me down
I’d buy myself a sheriff and run you out of town
Don’t darken up my door after you tore my world apart
‘Cause I’ll break something more than just your heart
Sometimes when I’m lonely
I get so lonely and I think of you
And me, by why can’t I see it's only
Wasted time, wasted tears I’m crying over you
And if I had a had a dime for all the times you broke me down
I’d buy myself a sheriff and run you out of town
Don’t darken up my door after you tore my world apart
Cause I’ll break something more than just your heart
I’ll break something more than just your heart
I’ll break something more than just your heart

I NEED MY ASS KICKED
Written by Kendall Jackson
I need my ass kicked and I need it done right
for a long pattern of ridiculous behavior culminating on Saturday night
I'm gonna find me a big old redneck and I'm gonna start a fight
I need my ass kicked, and that'll set things right
I been stoned every single day of my life since 1984
Ask any of my friends and they will all tell you that my favorite drug is more
my brother-in-law won't talk to me says I'm a cheater and a liar
claims I asked my wife's sister if she'd be in a manage a trois
I need my ass kicked and I need it done right
for a long pattern of ridiculous behavior culminating on Saturday night
I'm gonna find me a big old redneck and I'm gonna start a fight
I need my ass kicked, and that'll set things right
I like to flip off the cops at the Walmart, just to see what they will do
my kids eat at Chuck-e-Cheese all the time on account a there's this waitress that I wanna screw
Last Saturday night they found me swimming, naked in my neighbor's pool
ten cops and them were trying to fish me out while I was screamin' "I ain't nobody's fool!"
I need my ass kicked and I need it done right
I need my ass kicked, and that'll set things right

ONE DAMN THING
By Kendall Jackson
Well I was always kind of a stoner
And she was always kind of mad
The day she put all my shit on the porch was the best day I ever had
Always subtle were her ways
I don't think of her these days
But when people ask here's what I say
There ain't one damn thing I miss about her
Not her perfume not her kinky two toned hair
She's as mean as a cottonmouth on the ground
And she don't weigh 90 pounds if you wet her down
I don't call on her, and she don't bother me
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey-yeah.
She was a barefoot hippie
Fighting with her old man
I fell for her and she for me put a ring upon her hand
That's when daddy reeled her in
I hope I never see her again
When people ask here's what I say
There ain't one damn thing I miss about her
Not her perfume not her kinky two tone hair
She's as mean as a cottonmouth on the ground
And she don't weigh 90 pounds if you wet her down
I don't call on her, and she don't bother me
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey–hey
Her daddy called me everything except my name
He was driving me insane
I got out with no kids and some shame
There ain't one damn thing I miss about her
Not her perfume not her kinky two tone hair
She's as mean as a cottonmouth on the ground
And she don't weigh 90 pounds if you wet her down
I don't call on her, and she don't bother me hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Yeah, yeah

The Highballers Washington D.C., D.C.
"Songs about hard-drinking, crime, sex, heartache and the seamier side of life comprise the core of The Highballers’ music.
The band’s sweet savory harmonies meld flawlessly with the twang of Fender telecasters. The Highballers’ brand of country can’t be pigeon-holed into one type of sound; their music is rough and tumble and at the same time can be evocative and haunting."
